In one fraction of a second, the world goes dark as the pupils

of those in the crowd staring fixedly at the stage

their excitement growing, their anticipation building

like the moment when you’re going up

up, up on a roller coaster

just waiting for that big drop

Then, you get to the top

hanging over the edge, waiting for that steep fall

the lights come back on,

luminous lights shining down

illuminating the lively crowd

the artist walking onstage in a moment that’s

as rare and precious as a bolt of lightning striking.

as the stadium fills with euphoria, the air electric

and you’ve finally hit the drop

Now you’re in the coaster car, flying around, heading down

moving about wildly and singing loudly

the music blaring and the lights blinding

enjoying the ride because you know

you’ll reach the bottom too soon

But then the ride ends and the lights go out

the artist disappears from the stage in another flash of lightning

leaving behind only blackness as the lights fade out again

and you’re left there feeling lonely, but also lively

wanting to relive the joy of the ride all over again
